Duke Initiatives in Theology and the Arts (DITA) hosts psychiatrist, neuroscience researcher, philosopher and literary scholar Iain McGilchrist for a public dialogue with DITA director Dr. Jeremy Begbie. The best-selling author of The Master and His Emissary (Yale, 2010) and the two-volume work The Matter with Things (Perspectiva Press, 2021), McGilchrist researches, teaches, and lectures widely on brain hemisphere theory as a lens for understanding the development of Western culture over the last few centuries. In this public conversation, Jeremy Begbie, recent author of Abundantly More, will explore what McGilchrist’s ideas might mean for the arts today—not least for the arts as vehicles of the divine.
This event is one in a series of events included in Dr. McGilchrist's visit to Duke University, hosted and sponsored by the Trent Center for Bioethics, Humanities & History of Medicine. DITA is grateful to the Trent Center and to the Theology, Medicine, and Culture Initiative for their partnership in this event.
