“If you are studying theology and the arts, you have probably read something by Jeremy Begbie. I think a much larger crowd needs to know that somebody like Jeremy Begbie exists, someone who is such a great theologian but also a brilliant musician in his own right.”
— Chris Breslin, Pastor of Oak Church

Unfulfilled Desires: How Music Helps Us Understand Our Deepest Longings
C. S. Lewis famously spoke of fleeting experiences of “joy” he had early in life, describing a longing for something agonisingly elusive, something this finite world cannot offer: “a half-remembered realm from which we are currently exiled.” Jeremy Begbie will explore the ways this has been expressed and explored through music, and compare this pre-Christian unfulfilled desire with Christian hope.

The Holy Spirit & the Arts
For centuries many have perceived a strong bond between the work of the Spirit and artistic creativity. Talk of inspiration, spirituality, and the life of the spirit abounds when the arts are in view. This course asks why this might be so. What is it about the arts that lends themselves so easily to “spirit-talk”, and what is it about the person and work of the Holy Spirit that often leads us to talk about the arts, aesthetics, and artistic creativity? We also ask: how can the arts be more effective agents of the Spirit’s activity in the church and world?

Park Cities Presbyterian Church Lecture: Why should the Arts Matter to Christians?
Why should the arts matter to Christians?
The link between faith and the arts is as old as history. But many contemporary Christians see the arts as an amusing luxury or pleasant ornament, irrelevant to a broken world in need of the Gospel. Jeremy Begbie will challenge this. Using images, recordings, and live performances on the piano, he will show that the arts in general—and music in particular—have the power to open up a Christian worldview like nothing else and transform our lives in the process.
Music and Arts will welcome Dr. Jeremy Begbie on September 19 at 7:00 p.m. Dr. Begbie, a theologian, teacher, speaker, and musician, is an ordained minister of the Church of England and a systematic theologian whose primary research is the correlation between theology and the arts. He currently is a professor of theology at Duke University and an affiliated lecturer in the Faculty of Music at Cambridge University. No tickets are required.

Resound Worship Songwriter Retreat 2022
In summer 2022 the Resound Worship Songwriter Retreat is going bigger and better.
So, for this year only, we've extended to four nights. We've nearly doubled capacity by offering a range of accommodation options. We've invited additional special guest speakers and contributors.
And, watch this space, but we're also planning a live recording as part of the event.
Four nights at Wydale Hall in North Yorkshire, a country manor house overlooking a beautiful valley, under the summer sun with songwriters ranging from grassroots beginners to published professionals. A unique opportunity to gather, learn, share, collaborate, write and worship.
Where previous retreats have been very much focused on the individual writer having time and support to be creative, this will be a more collaborative experience. There'll be more input, more collaboration, more opportunities to grow and flourish. But you'll also be completely free to take yourself off to a corner to do your own thing.
The Light of the World in Oxford: 150 Years of Holman Hunt's Painting at Keble College (1872-2022)
A conference celebrating 150 years of Holman Hunt's painting at Keble College, Oxford
About this event
Holman Hunt’s The Light of the World is among the most influential religious works of art in existence and the single most widely exhibited work of art in history. It was seen by seven million people on a global tour in 1905-1907, which had a lasting effect on Christian culture and imagination internationally. Even today, the image remains instantly recognisable and familiar to many around the world.
The painting combines an arresting aesthetic with a direct spiritual appeal, at once immediate and yet mysterious. In its powerful visual exposition of a single verse of Scripture (Rev. 3:20), it draws the viewer in with its focus on the figure of Christ as at once powerful presence and humble petitioner, majestic and yet intimate and intensely personal.
This encounter is seen to occur within a strikingly luminous appreciation of the natural world (or what we might today call the Environment), addressing its sustaining fertile lushness as well as its autumnal decay and sometimes parasitic recalcitrance.
Celebrating the 150th anniversary of its donation to Keble College, Oxford, the conference will consider the history and interpretation of the painting while also asking what continued meaning it holds today.
